My grandfather whom is 87 years old has grown accustomed to certain ways thing must be done, with no variations. After coming acquainted with my grandmother's recipes, I have found, according to my grandfather, the cookie that is best to dip into milk. Of course after seeing the ingredients, I have realized why these are great dipping cookies as well as great tasting. Let's just say they have a lot of butter, but butter is the essence of most good tasting food.
The cookie is known as a Lep Cookie. It a German cookie that has become a favorite in our family.
The recipe is as follows:
Ingredients:
- 1 pound of brown sugar (can be either dark or light)
- 1/2 pound of margarine ( I used regular butter, but margarine works the best)
- 2 eggs at room temperature
{ beat these ingredients together until a smooth texture }
Next Step:
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 tsp of baking soda
{ stir these two together until the baking soda is well incorporated }
- 4 Cups of flour
After you have completed these first two steps, add 2 cups of flour with the sour cream mixture and the above ingredients. Beat these with a mixer.
If you like raisins, you add the raisins before your add the last 2 cups of flour. Personally, I'm not a big fan of raisins, but they add a good flavor to the cookie.
The next step is to add the last 2 cups of flour, but mix by hand. By mixing by hand, it gives the dough a better texture.
After completely the dough, you will see that it is very sticky, so don't be alarmed when you find the dough to be like this.
- Set the oven to 350 degrees, and spoon the mixture out onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 8-12 minutes or until the dough is slightly risen and lightly browned on the top.
I hope you enjoy these as much as my family does!
